The San Francisco 49ers have put an emphasis on shoring up their depth in the receiving corps with the recent addition of Tavon Austin and JJ Nelson. It appears they decided to keep it going by bringing in a former NFC West rival from the Seattle Seahawks.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the 49ers have signed wide receiver Jaron Brown.

San Francisco's efforts to revamp their receiving corp come in response to the injury bug that has plagued the group this offseason. They already lost wide receiver Jalen Hurd for the 2020 NFL season with a torn ACL while wide receiver Deebo Samuel is expected to miss some time while he continues to recover from a broken foot.

The 49ers will now be relying on a number of new faces to help serve as viable options for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Austin and Nelson provide a much-needed element of explosiveness and versatility. Meanwhile, Brown's size potentially gives Garoppolo another big target to throw to outside of tight end George Kittle.

Bringing in this trio of veteran pass-catchers should help alleviate the young, unproven talent in the receiving corps with Hurd and Samuel out. Regardless, the onus will still fall on wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne, and Dante Pettis to pick up the slack in their absence.

Brown largely played a modest role in the Seahawks offense after registering 30 receptions for 386 yards during his two seasons with the team, however, he did prove to be quite the red zone option by hauling in seven touchdowns as well.
