During Sunday's 24-20 loss against the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams absolutely demolished Cardinals linebacker Jordan Hicks on a run play.

Williams talked about that specific play, that ended up going viral with 2.0 million views and counting on Twitter,  with reporters on Thursday.

“I knew I'd have pretty much a kill shot on him and had to get there quick, Williams said on Thursday, via Cam Inman of San Jose Mercury. I wanted to get to the second level as fast as I can and take away the option and, for the lack of a better expression, just kind of lay him out.”

Despite the defeat on Sunday, Williams still played phenomenally, as he recorded the highest mark of the team, with an 88.6 overall grade. The 32-year-old left tackle also earned a run blocking grade of 89.7, which was the second best among left tackles in Week 1. Furthermore, Williams allowed just one quarterback hurry in pass protection.

Considering that this was Williams' first game since Dec. 30, 2018, the 49ers should very much be happy with the way he performed on Sunday. The 49ers acquired Williams from The Washington Football Team back in April in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2021 draft. Williams sat out last year due to contract issues with the Washington organization.

Nevertheless, the 49ers will be seeking to rebound from their loss in Week 1 as they face the New York Jets on Sunday.
