The San Francisco 49ers opened their preseason against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night. Deebo Samuel's 45-yard catch on the Dallas secondary might've been the best play of the game.

If C.J. Beathard didn't underthrow the ball, Samuel was likely going to run into the end zone for a touchdown. Nonetheless, Samuel made an impressive adjustment to the throw to bring the ball down over rookie Mike Jackson of the Cowboys.

The 49ers selected Samuel with the 36th overall pick in this year's draft. The rookie wideout attended South Carolina in college, catching 148 passes and 16 touchdowns in his four seasons there.

Samuel had his best season in 2018 when he brought in 62 receptions, 882 yards, and 11 touchdowns. San Francisco is expecting its second-round pick to be a crucial part of the passing offense in 2019.

Samuel is currently competing to secure the slot receiver position along with Trent Taylor, Jordan Matthews, and Jalen Hurd. Taylor suffered a broken foot this week; that could allow Samuel to win the starting job by default.

Samuel finished his preseason debut with just two receptions for 61 yards. However, Samuel led the team in receiving yards on the night with 61.

Comparatively, fellow rookie Jalen Hurd caught three passes for 31 yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers are excited about each of their rookie wide receivers.

Kyle Shanahan is known to have an explosive offensive scheme, but it could become even more dangerous if Samuel is making catches as he did against the Cowboys on Saturday night.
