Jimmy Garoppolo had a week to forget, but Matt Breida helped him change course. All the news surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback was of his miserable time throwing the ball. That miserable time included throwing an interception on five straight throws in a scrimmage… but the bad times didn't last.

He took a major step in making everyone forget about all the problems on Saturday though. In the San Francisco 49ers preseason week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Garoppolo went 14-for-20 for 188 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

Of course, he didn't do that without any help.

Friendly reminder that Matt Brieda is a running back. He's a running back making ridiculous diving grabs in the end zone.

Brieda emerged last season as a legitimate starting running back. After a solid rookie year, he posted 814 yards on 153 carries (5.3 yards per carry) and three touchdowns. He also caught 27 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

However, he's not alone in the backfield. Tevin Coleman is now on the roster, and he's proven himself to be a very solid running back in the NFL as well.

If Brieda wants to continue to get a heavy majority of the playing time, he'll need to make plays. That's exactly what he did here, showing he's not just someone you have to hand the ball off to. He can make plays no matter what.

Most importantly though, this had to feel good for Jimmy Garoppolo. After struggling during the week to go out there and put up solid numbers was a must. Matt Brieda definitely gets a major assist with this fantastic catch.

Hopefully for fans of the San Francisco 49ers this is a little foreshadowing. The two could be major parts of the franchise for a long time.
