The Kansas City Chiefs are reigning Super Bowl champions, led by Andy Reid as their head coach. Besides Reid, the Chiefs have had a handful of memorable and successful head coaches at the helm over the years.

Throughout the franchise's first 60 years, Kansas City has compiled a 481-423-12 record. While some coaches have had more winning seasons than others, the Chiefs have had 13 coaches contribute to their win total.

Since the very first Super Bowl, Kansas City has had their fair share of talented head coaches. With that in mind, here are the five best head coaches of all time for the Chiefs.

5. John Mackovic

Back in the early 1980s, the Chiefs didn't see much success as far as winning football games was concerned. But from 1983-1986, John Mackovic helped Kansas City put together a respectable record.

Before accepting the job in 1983, Mackovic was inheriting a Chiefs team that went 3-6 under the tutelage of Marv Levy in a strike-shortened year. In his first three seasons in Kansas City, Mackovic combined for a 20-28 record as the head coach.

Then, in 1986, Mackovic led the Chiefs to their first playoff appearance since 1971. While Mackovic and Kansas City weren't able to win a postseason game, he was the second coach ever to lead the Chiefs to the playoffs.

4. Dick Vermeil

Dick Vermeil is forever remembered by fans of the Los Angeles Rams (then in St. Louis) as the lone coach to win them a Super Bowl. However, following his stint with the Rams, he proceeded to coach the Chiefs from 2001-2005

Over the course of his five seasons with the Chiefs, Vermeil was able to post a 44-36 record. In his third season with the team, Vermeil led Kansas City to a 13-3 mark, securing a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Ultimately, the Chiefs would fall to Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Divisional round. Despite making the postseason only once in his time with Kansas City, Vermeil has the fourth-best winning percentage in franchise history.

3. Marty Schottenheimer

Before Vermeil arrived in Kansas City, the Chiefs had Gunther Cunningham as their head coach from 1999-2000. But before Cunningham held the position, Kansas City saw a massive amount of success under Marty Schottenheimer.

Just a couple of years after the Chiefs let Mackovic go, Schottenheimer took the job in Kansas City. Over the span of 10 seasons, between 1989-1998, Schottenheimer gave fans of the Chiefs plenty of reasons to cheer.

Altogether, Schottenheimer combined to have an impressive 101-58-1 record during his time with Kansas City. Also, his 10 postseason games are tied for the most for a Chiefs head coach.

2. Hank Stram

The first coach that the Chiefs ever hired was Hank Stram. Little did they know that he would be the longest-tenured coach in their franchise's history.

After his first two seasons in Kansas City, Stram accumulated a 14-14 record. However, in just his third season at the helm, the Chiefs were able to win their first NFL Championship in team history.

While he would lose in the first-ever Super Bowl in 1966, Stram would aid Kansas City in securing their first Super Bowl in 1969. Seeing that he's the longest-tenured coach and is one of two coaches to win the Chiefs a Super Bowl, Stram will forever be remembered by fans in Kansas City.

1. Andy Reid

Last but not least, the mastermind behind Kansas City's Super Bowl run in 2019 lands at No. 1 on this list. Since Reid took over for the Chiefs in 2013, they have been one of the most formidable teams in the NFL.

In his first seven seasons with the Chiefs, Reid has made the playoffs in six of them. Even before he arrived in Kansas City, Reid was revered as an outstanding coach with the Eagles.

Most recently, upon the arrival of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Reid has helped the Chiefs deploy one of the most prolific offenses in recent memory. After plenty of years of coming close, Reid achieved his elusive Super Bowl victory a season ago. Seeing that he has a bright future in Kansas City, he has already solidified himself in the team's history books.
