The Green Bay Packers have a rich history filled with lots of success. Not often have the Packers had long stretches of bad teams, which makes it even harder to come up with a list of the greatest teams.

There are many teams that could be considered for this list, but here are the top five teams in franchise history.

5. 1967

The Packers' 1967 regular season wasn't the best in team history, but once the playoffs rolled around, their experience showed. They finished the regular season with a 9-4-1 record.

In the Western Conference Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams, the Packers fell behind 7-0. Those seven points were the only points they gave up as they cruised to a victory. In the NFL Championship game, Green Bay knocked off the Dallas Cowboys 33-14 in the “Ice Bowl.”

In Super Bowl II, the Packers dominated the Raiders 33-14 in what ended up being Vince Lombardi's last game. What better way for him to end his coaching career than to be carried off the field after a Super Bowl victory?

4. 1996

The 1996 season for the Packers was the year that Brett Favre became a superstar. Green Bay finished the season with a 13-3 record, winning each of its last five games. To close out the regular season the Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings in blowout fashion in a 38-10 victory.

Everyone knows what the offense could do led by Favre, but most seem to overlook what the defense did. The Packers only allowed 19 touchdowns in the 16-game regular season, which was an NFL record.

The Packers played three games during the playoffs, with none of them really being tests. In the Super Bowl, Green Bay was down 14-10 after the first against the New England Patriots, but that didn't last long. The Packers scored 17 points in the second quarter and there was no looking back.

3. 1966

When most think of the Packers' history, a lot of people's minds go back to 1966 when they knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs in the first Super Bowl. Green Bay found a lot of success during the regular season, finishing with a 12-2 record. The only losses were against the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings.

In the first Super Bowl, the Packers beat the Chiefs 35-17. Quarterback Bart Starr was named the MVP of the game after throwing for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Starr finished the season throwing for 2,257 yards and 14 touchdowns.

2. 1965

The 1965 Packers team got out to a fast start by winning their first six games in a row. The most impressive win during that stretch was to start the season with a 41-9 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During the middle of the season, the Packers did hit a little lull where they lost two games in a row, but they quickly bounced back. In the conference championship game, Green Bay won a hard-fought battle against the Baltimore Colts 13-10.

In the NFL Championship Game, the Packers defense stepped up big against Jim Brown in holding him to only 50 yards rushing. That defense was enough for the Packers to earn a 23-12 win.

1. 1962

The Packers' 1962 team was loaded with talent, and not only the best team in franchise history, but also one of the best teams in NFL history.

Starr and Ray Nitschke were the stars of a team that featured 11 players who eventually made it into the Hall of Fame. The Packers finished the regular season with a 13-1 record. The record alone is impressive, but how bad they beat teams opened up everyone's eyes. Green Bay averaged 29.6 points per game while giving up only 10.6.

In the NFL Championship Game, the Packers knocked off the New York Giants 37-0. Barr Starr threw for three touchdowns in that game. The Green Bay defense made life tough on Giants quarterback Y.A. Tittle by forcing him to throw four interceptions.
