The Kansas City Chiefs have been in the league since 1963, and have had plenty of elite teams. There is a good chance in the next few years this list could look a little different if the Chiefs do become a dynasty. But for right now, let's break down the five best teams in Chiefs history.

5. 2003

The 2003 Chiefs were an elite offensive team, but they didn't care a whole lot about playing any type of defense. Kansas City finished the regular season with a 13-3 record. Trent Green was one of the best quarterbacks in football and running back Priest Holmes was running wild. Holmes finished the 2003 season rushing for 1,420 yards and 27 touchdowns.

The Chiefs finished the regular season with a perfect record at home. The Indianapolis Colts came to town in the playoffs, and that's where they lost their first home game. Peyton Manning carved up the Chiefs defense and even with Kansas City's strong offense they had no answer. Like a lot of teams in Chiefs history, they were bounced early in the playoffs.

4. 1995

The 1995 team was dominant during the regular season, finishing with a 13-3 record. That was enough to earn them one the one seed in the AFC and a first-round bye.

Steve Bono was the Chiefs quarterback, playing really well during the regular season throwing for 3,121 yards, 21 touchdowns, and ten interceptions.

Once the Chiefs got to the playoffs, the expectations were the Super Bowl, but one big issue stood in their way: their kicker. After a first-round bye, the Chiefs had to face the Indianapolis Colts at home. Chiefs kicker Lin Elliott missed three kicks in the game, leading the Chiefs to lose by three points.

After all these years, some Chiefs fans still haven't forgiven Elliott for what he did in that playoff appearance.

3. 1993

In terms of star power, the 1993 team had plenty of it. Before the 1995 season began, the Chiefs brought in quarterback Joe Montana and running back Marcus Allen.

Kansas City finished the regular season with an 11-5 record. In the playoffs, it wasn't easy but they won their first two games to get to the AFC Championship game. The Buffalo Bills proved to be too much as the Chiefs lost in blowout fashion.

Even though it didn't end with a Super Bowl, Montana and Allen both had big seasons with their new team. In terms of fun teams to watch, this was up there as one of the best in franchise history.

2. 1969

1969 was a special year for the Kansas City Chiefs as they won their first Super Bowl. Len Dawson led the Chiefs to an 11-3 record during the regular season.

In terms of playmakers, there were better teams, but this team won the ultimate goal. The Chiefs didn't have a whole lot of resistance the entire playoffs. Heading into the Super Bowl, they were underdogs against the Minnesota Vikings. The Chiefs defense stepped up big time in the game to lead the team to an easy victory.

1. 2019

Not only was the 2019 Chiefs team the best in teams, there could be an argument made that they are one of the best teams in NFL history.

The Chiefs finished the regular season with a 12-4 victory, even though they lost Patrick Mahomes for a few games with an injury. Once the playoffs came, they played with fire by falling behind in all three games. But they came back in each one to win the team's second Super Bowl. Mahomes finished the 2019 season throwing for 4,031 yards, 26 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

If he wouldn't have missed games because of injury, it could have been the best statistical season ever for a quarterback.
