Philadelphia 76ers general manager Elton Brand has signed a multi-year extension with the organization, The Athletic's Shams Charania confirmed on Sunday.

Brand had one year remaining on his deal before inking the two-year extension with Philly, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. It has also been previously reported that Brand had already signed the extension before Morey even came on board with the Sixers.

The 76ers recently hired former Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morel as the new president of basketball operations, and it seems as though Brand will be sticking around to work under Morey.

As Charania notes, Morey will be formally introduced by the club on Monday.

Elton Brand has overseen basketball operations since Sept. 2018 — to mixed results. The former All-Star power forward is universally considered one of the best people around, but his roster construction has repeatedly come under fire. Brand let Jimmy Butler walk in free agency, awarded a four-year, $109 million contract to a 33-year old Al Horford, and traded two first-round picks for Tobias Harris before re-signing him for $180 million.

In fact, Brand decidedly built a team that seemed better equipped to thrive in a slower, more physical era of NBA basketball, as opposed to the current era of pace-and-space that, ironically, his new boss helped pioneer.

In the immediate future, the biggest questions for Morey, Brand, Rivers and the rest of the organization will focus on how they re-shape the team's roster and style to maximize the skills of their two superstars, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

It's been a busy off-season for the 76ers in the wake of the team's flameout in the Orlando bubble. Head coach Brett Brown was replaced by Doc Rivers, who has brought in multiple new assistant coaches, including Dave Joerger, Brian Adams, and Dan Burke.
