The Philadelphia 76ers taking a 2-0 lead on the Washington Wizards was supposed to be the main takeaway from the game on Wednesday night. But when Russell Westbrook was leaving the floor after sustaining an ankle injury, all hell almost broke loose.

Westbrook was exiting the court and in the tunnel area when popcorn was thrown on him by a 76ers fan in the crowd. The Wizards point guard had to be restrained as he reacted to the popcorn being thrown all over him by the fan.

The 76ers have since released a statement and the punishment handed down is one that will be widely applauded.

As the 76ers stated in their release, the fan is having his season ticket membership revoked, and he will be banned from any and all events at Wells Fargo Center indefinitely.

For those who didn't see the video and have been under a rock for the last 16 hours or so, here it is.

Just a wild move to even think that would be okay in any circumstance. It's not the first time Westbrook has had a run in with goofy fans but hopefully this is the last. Westbrook spoke on this most recent incident following the Wizards loss and he didn't mince his words.

The series will head back to D.C. now with the Wizards trailing the 76ers 2-0. Westbrook's update on his ankle injury hasn't been provided yet. Without him, Washington will be in a world of trouble if they want a genuine opportunity to climb out of this hole.

Tip of the cap to the 76ers for making the right call on this one.
