Zlatan Ibrahimovic is going to miss AC Milan's Champions League showdown against Liverpool on Wednesday because of an Achilles injury, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Ibrahimovic recently returned from an injury over the weekend and scored a goal in AC Milan's 2-0 victory over Lazio. However, his Achilles tightened up on him afterward, and The Athletic says he'll be missing Wednesday's match as a precautionary measure.

The 39-year-old has been dealing with a lot of injury issues as he gets closer and closer to 40. The return over the weekend was Ibrahimovic's first appearance on the pitch since May because of a knee injury, which ultimately ended his 2020-21 season. AC Milan wound up finishing as the runner-up in Serie A play.

When healthy, the AC Milan star can certainly still perform. Ibrahimovic scored 15 goals in 19 Serie A appearances last season.

UCL group play begins Tuesday with eight matches. There are then eight more on Wednesday to finish up the first set of matches. There's then a two-week break before play starts again, so the hope is surely that Ibrahimovic will be ready to go for the next match against Atletico Madrid on Sept. 28.

For now, perhaps Ibrahimovic will continue his feud with LeBron James.
