Activision Blizzard revealed in its earnings and investor report for 2020 that it earned a net USD 8.09 billion. The record soundly defeated the company's 2019 record of USD 6.49 billion. Investors of the huge gaming giant promptly celebrated the 25% increase in earnings. 2020 in general challenged multiple businesses but video gaming remains as strong as ever.

Activision of the Future

The company owes its success largely due to the success of the Call of Duty franchise. Last year saw the release of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and it immediately rocketed in fame. One Activision Blizzard spokesperson spoke in length about the company's successes. They credited CoD, World of WarCraft, and Candy Crash as their strongest earners.

“We are already seeing the impact of our growth initiatives for Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush, which we expect to again drive strong results in 2021. And at the same time, we are making significant progress against our development pipeline for other key intellectual properties, which we expect to fuel further growth in 2022 and beyond.”

Undoubtedly, Activision Blizzard wants to continue its meteoric growth. Its current plan revolves around pushing the CoD-style infrastructure to its other franchises. The company acknowledges the potential of the free-to-play markets as well as multi-platform releases.
