After a relatively slow start as a rookie, Adam Gotsis has seen a considerable uptick in playing time as a two-down Denver Broncos defensive lineman in the second and third years of his career.

This offseason, he has adjusted to his third head coach and defensive coordinator in his four seasons as a pro. However, Gotsis embracing the challenge and looking forward to growth and changes in a defense that had gotten a bit stagnant over time.

“I’m loving it,” defensive lineman Adam Gotsis said of the defense after practice on May 23. “We’re still basing out of the 3-4, pretty similar stuff to kind of last year, kind of the same techniques.

“Then we’re going to be playing a lot of subs, let us get a little more pass rush, a little more pass rush up inside, I think. I think it’s a good fit for a lot of us on the d-line.”

A large part of loving the fit is loving his new coach’s style. Vic Fangio, with his hard-nosed, no-nonsense coaching, is trying to reverse some themes regarding discipline and intensity that emerged under former coach Vance Joseph.

On the field, Fangio will have a versatile defense to play with. The presence of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb on the edges alone gives him and defensive coordinator Ed Donatell flexibility in the front seven. In the secondary, Fangio will have several versatile defensive backs which will allow him to move players around.

Justin Simmons and Will Parks excel in coverage while Sua Cravens is a force closer to the line of scrimmage.

The combination should result in a much better 2019 for the unit.
