Recently, Bleacher Report's Yaron Weitzman wrote a wonderful article about former NBA player Adam Morrison‘s life after the NBA. Weitzman detailed how Morrison dealt with the bust label after not living up to expectations of being a third overall pick. I've gone through and highlighted what I've found interesting within the article.

  1. ACL tear and Type 1 Diabetes hampered his NBA career from the start
Adam couldn't handle his diabetes in the pros like in college because of the workload and amount of games. With fewer games in the college schedule, he was able to push through despite his energy and strength being negatively affected by the disease. In the NBA, where it's an 82 game schedule, it took a toll on him. A former teammate said you could see that sometimes he didn't have it in him. A torn ACL didn't help matters and slowed him down even more.
  2. After an overseas stint, Morrison attempted one last NBA comeback
Following his oversea stint in 2012, he played for the Clippers and Nets in the summer league, averaging 20 points and 5 rebounds within five games. Often times, that would get you a solid amount of invites to a training camp, but not for Adam. He only received an invite from the Blazers. He was soon cut before the regular season, and he attributes that to his ‘bust' label. As he says,”Once you get that ‘bust' label, it's hard to shake it, and rightfully so. Somebody spent a top-five pick on you, and you didn't deliver.”
  3. Enjoys life as a wealthy suburban dad
Adam has made under an estimated $17 million, plus his endorsement deal with adidas that was worth seven figures. Taught by his uncle on how to live life without spending, investing smartly, and only needing to use six toe eight percent a year to continue living his current lifestyle. He has two daughters with his ex-girlfriend and is expecting a son with his current girlfriend. He goes to play golf with friends once a week and enjoys playing high stakes games, often poker, with a group of firefighters.

It would seem that Adam has found peace with how his career turned out and enjoys his life now. This is unlike most infamous busts in professional sports that often hit rock bottom, ending up on reality TV rehab shows, prison, or even worse.
