With all the controversial and provocative comments LaVar Ball has made over the past couple of months, many have been left wondering if he did it all on purpose to bring more attention to his sons, or if he is just out of his mind and is way too obnoxious. Now, it has even reached the point that the NBA commissioner has been asked to give his thoughts on him and the potential selection of Lonzo Ball in this year’s draft.

Adam Silver made an appearance on the recent episode of ESPN’s radio show Mike and Mike, where he was asked how he will manage the elder Ball if he continues his antics after his son gets drafted. Silver shared that he only experienced talking to a player’s father once, and it was in a polite way. The commissioner then added that he thinks he will “settle down” once Lonzo is already part of an NBA team’s roster.

“I think here, if I were an NBA team looking at Lonzo Ball, I'm not sure how much consideration I would give to his father. I think ultimately the issue is, how much game does Lonzo have, how great a player can he be.

“I think his dad will invariably settle down once his son is drafted and a team has the appropriate discussions with him. So I'm not concerned about that.”

It only took one year at UCLA for Lonzo Ball to solidify his status among the draft hopefuls, and he is now pegged as among the top three picks. However, with all the negative publicity his father is attracting, there is also a chance for his stock to plummet a bit, as teams are concerned that LaVar will be too involved in his son’s career and could be a distraction to their players.

It’s still unclear which team he’ll play for, but the Balls have made it public that they prefer to see Lonzo wear the purple and gold jersey and play for their home team, the Los Angeles Lakers. If there’s one thing certain at this point, whichever team drafts him, their front office, players, as well their fans, will hope to see more of Lonzo and less of LaVar.
