The trend of former professional football and basketball players turning to boxing is reportedly expected to continue. We have seen the likes of Deron Williams, Nate Robinson, and Frank Gore join the boxing ranks. And according to TMZ Sports, star running backs Adrian Peterson and Le'Veon Bell could be next to face off.

A boxing showdown between two NFL superstars is in the works — Adrian Peterson is currently in the process of becoming Le'Veon Bell's opponent at Crypto.com Arena next month, TMZ Sports has learned.

Neither Peterson nor Bell have officially retired from the NFL. But participating in an event such as this likely won't boost their odds of returning to the league anytime soon.

Adrian Peterson was once arguably the best running back in the league. He was the 2012 MVP who led the league in rushing yards on three separate occasions. Additionally, Peterson is a 7-time Pro Bowler. But his NFL future is cloudy at age 37. He also was arrested for a domestic violence incident earlier this year.

Bell is just 30 years old and is a 3-time Pro Bowler. He is someone who could realistically play in the NFL next season. But that seems highly unlikely given this potential boxing match.

This proposed boxing match would take place at Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center) in Los Angeles, CA. Bell has been preparing for this event for quite sometime. However, his opponent had yet to be announced. Barring unforeseen circumstances, it appears as if Peterson will indeed be Bell's opponent in LA.

Bell obviously has the age advantage. But Peterson has a reputation as being an extremely strong running back. This will be an exciting match as long as it comes to fruition.
