When FTR opted to leave WWE to pursue wrestling opportunities outside of the promotion, it was never supposed to be AEW or bust. Sure, most everyone expected to see the team formerly known as The Revival make their way to Tony Khan's promotion, as he's the biggest paying game in town outside of The Fed, but Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood explicitly mentioned wanting to test their mettle against the best of the best in the world of tag team wrestling from The North, then of Impact, to The Briscoes, then of Ring of Honor.

Fast forward to June of 2022, roughly 25 months after their debut in AEW and suddenly, FTR are the belles of the professional wrestling world once more. They've had incredible matches against everyone from the Young Bucks to The Briscoes and have even gotten a chance to share the ring with their idol Bret Hart, who managed the duo at an indie date earlier this year.

And, predictably enough, championship gold has followed the duo seemingly everywhere they've gone.

From winning the AEW tag team belts away from Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page at All Out 2020, to taking the Lucha Libre AAA belts from the Lucha Brothers and snatching Ring of Honor's top tag team prize at Supercard of Honor in a 6-star match versus The Briscoes, Wheeler and Harwood have cemented themselves as one of the best wrestling duos of this or any era, which is pretty darn impressive considering they were once almost used as a comedy duo with goofy outfits okayed by Vince McMahon.

But at Forbidden Door, FTR have a chance to transcend their current status and do something no other team in the history of wrestling has done. With a win over Roppongi Vice and the United Empire's Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan, FTR could the first team in wrestling history to hold the AEW, AAA, WWE, ROH, and IWGP Tag Team Titles in their career – a feat that would elevate them from just legends to part of the Mount Rushmore of tag team wrestling.

FTR could make history at AEW's Forbidden Door.

There have only been six different holders of the tag team championship in AEW; SCU, Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page, FTR, the Young Bucks, the Lucha Brothers, and Jurassic Express, with Nick and Matt Jackson now in their second reign with the belts.

Of those six teams, only one has held a tag team title for one of WWE's brands, making FTR the first team to ever accomplish that feat regardless of what happens at Forbidden Door. While there have been teams who won the ROH titles and AEW titles – the Young Bucks and SCU – the IWPG Tag Team Titles and the AEW titles – the Young Bucks – and even the IWGP, AEW, and Ring of Honor championships – I'll give you three guesses who – no team has ever won all three plus one in WWE, as the Bucks have yet to wrestle for Vince McMahon's promotion, and, at this point, may never make the jump to a promotion that once offered them very lucrative contracts of $500,000 each to avoid a run in AEW.

With a quick 1-2-3 over either Roppongi Vice or the United Empire's tag team of Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan, FTR could become the first team who accomplish the feat, which, when coupled with their current reign as the Lucha Libre AAA title holders, would make FTR one of the most decorated teams not just in AEW history, WWE history, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor or AAA history, but one of the top teams in all of wrestling history, period.

Huh, it's no wonder the duo call themselves the “Top Guys;” they quite literally have a chance to be the top guys in five different companies all within the span of just eight years of tagging together.

No matter how Forbidden Door shakes out, FTR's legacy as one of the best tag teams in professional wrestling is more or less set. They are WWE Triple Crown Tag Team Champions – Quadruple Crown Tag Team Champions if you count the 24/7 Championship – have wins over many of the best tag teams in the world today, from The Usos, to the Young Bucks, the Lucha Brothers, and even the Briscoes, and might just end up being managed by Bret Hart again before everything is said and done. Still, securing the IWGP Tag Team Championship would solidify their place in the world of wrestling as one of the most decorated teams of all time – really, all that would be missing from their resume is a tag run in Impact, which Scott D'Amore has already expressed interest in dating all the way back to 2020.
