King of Fighters XV is the first game in the series that will be launching on multiple platforms in more than a decade. The game is set to release in the first quarter of 2022. As of now, it does not have a definite launch date.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused delays for the game, moving its launch into next year. Producer Yasuyuki Oda stated: “The development timeline we set out to reach in the beginning has been affected by the ever-still rising cases of COVID-19 within Japan.” He added that they “have made the ultimate decision in the end that the product’s quality must come first.”

A 22-character roster has also been confirmed for the game. So far, SNK has confirmed the following characters: Kyo, Benimaru, Shun’ei, K’, Leona, Terry Bogard, Iori Yagami, Mai Shiranui, and Shermie.

King of Fighters XV is also the first game in the series developed on the Unreal Engine 4. Creative Director Eisuke Ogura also called it “our most ambitious KOF yet”.

They will also be implementing an “internal rollback solution” for the game's netcode. This is to ensure the online competitive experience will be as close to a LAN experience as possible.

King of Fighters XV will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows 10. King of Fighters XIII was the last KoF game to be released on day one for Xbox. This was way back in 2011. However, despite going multiplatform, SNK has yet to confirm crossplay.
