The stage is now set for the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, as the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will clash with the No. 3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

Alabama took care of business in its College Football Playoff semifinal bout with the No. 4 ranked Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young did not have the most dominant performance of his campaign, but he did throw for a trio of touchdown passes. Crimson Tide running back Brian Robinson Jr. was the story of the game for the reigning SEC champions, as he rushed for 204 yards.

Georgia also orchestrated a potent showing on the day against the No. 2 ranked Michigan Wolverines. Alabama head coach Nick Saban caught a glimpse of the contest and was much impressed with the outing from his upcoming opponent in the national title game.

“The team has an opportunity to win the national championship,” Saban said on ESPN's College Gameday. “So, you expect to play a good team. We’re still going to probably be underdogs in the game, I would assume. Georgia played an outstanding game last night. The part that I saw against Michigan, they were dominant. So, I could see why people would think that, but it’s a challenge.

“Our players have a tremendous amount of respect after playing Georgia of how good of players they have and how good a team and how well coached they are and what it would actually take to have success against them. So, I think that’s got to be the way we start and that’s got to be the mental edge that we have, and if we don’t have that, we’re not going to play the way we’re capable of playing or like we need to play to be able to compete against a team like this.”

These two powerhouse programs last met less than a month ago in the 2021 SEC Championship Game, where Young put the finishing touches on his Heisman Trophy resume with a three-touchdown outing in the 41-24 win for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama will look to become the first team in the College Football Playoff era to repeat as national champions.
