In a recent episode of Sneaker Shopping with Complex, Hall of Famer Allen Iverson recounted some of the very first pairs of sneakers that caught his eye. The Philadelphia 76ers legend eluded to a pair of Nike Air Revolutions that he wanted so badly, that he even wore a pair one-and-a-half sizes bigger just to finally have them.

But that wasn't the worst of all, his mother made the ultimate sacrifice of not paying the electric bill so that Bubba Chuck could have his favorite kicks.

“I was wearing, like, a size 7, and they only had an 8.5,” Iverson said. “That’s how bad I wanted them. I remember it vividly because our lights got turned off for her getting them for me. So shoutout to mama.”

Despite the struggles growing up, Iverson has kept his undying love for sneakers, claiming that “the better you look, the better you play,” and insisting there isn't anything wrong with another player wearing someone's signature sneakers — after all, he's dealt with it plenty of times.

The 41-year-old has a lifetime sneaker deal with Reebok, who released at least two pairs of his signature lines — the “Question” and “Answer” every year.

After a 10-year stint with the Sixers, A.I. played for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies, before signing with Philadelphia once again to retire a Sixer.
