The Miami Heat are just a few seasons removed from appearing in four straight NBA Finals while winning a pair of titles behind their big three led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.

Despite all that in mind, Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning told Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post that he believes team president Pat Riley can build another championship contender.

“It happened to me, illness.” Mourning missed nearly two full seasons during the prime of his career after being diagnosed with a disease that led to a kidney transplant. “Pat had to rebuild. With Chris and LeBron, D-Wade leaving, same thing. Rebuilding. He’s one of the greatest basketball architects on the face of the earth. He knows what it takes to win. He knows what to do when it pertains to developing a champion. We’ve seen him do it time and time and time again. I trust this will be no different.”

Since James made the decision to rejoin the Cleveland Cavaliers three seasons ago, the franchise has undergone drastic change to the roster. Wade has left in free agency for the Chicago Bulls meanwhile Bosh is trying to work his way back into the NBA after the appearance of a second blood clot last season.

That said, the Heat were one of the surprise teams last season nearly making the playoffs following a slow start to the year. The team received balanced offensive play from eight players who averaged double figures led by veteran guard Goran Dragic and big man Hassan Whiteside.

Miami could add to that in the offseason with reported interest in signing All-Star forward Gordon Hayward. Although the Heat are far for being a championship contender, they are progressively headed in the right direction.
