Andre Drummond is not a good free-throw shooter. That's a fact that most NBA fans know to be true, but just how bad is the Pistons center from the charity stripe?

Thankfully there's Reddit to provide an amazing comparison point:

“The odds are almost exactly the same of Andre Drummond being struck by lightening [sic] than making 13 free throws in a row. For DeAndre, it's about 15 free throws. Google tells me the odds of being struck by lightning in the US are 1/700,000. Drummond shot .355% last year. Raise that to the 13th.”

The lightning odds were verified on National Geographic's website. To clarify, a person in the United States has a 1/700,000 chance of being struck by lightning specifically in one year's time, but 1/3,000 in one's lifetime.

A second Reddit user commented in the same thread explaining why the likelihood of Drummond being struck by lightning is greater than the national average. He argues:

“Drummond probably has better odds of being struck by lightning due to his height and the humid continental climate zone that Detroit occupies.”

This commenter provided further evidence:

“Michigan ranks 13th in lightning related deaths… as a male aged 20-29, Drummond sits squarely in the demographic most likely to fall victim to a fatal lightning strike according to statistical analysis done by the NOAA.”

So there you have it. Drummond is more likely to be struck by lightning than make 13 straight free throws… probably.

Either way, as a third Reddit user puts it, “This is the kind of analysis that wins championships.”

Thanks for the offseason fun, NBA Reddit.
