For the young Minnesota Timberwolves, the addition of coach Tom Thibodeau to their bench can be seen as an excellent way to jumpstart their ascension.

Known for his defensive genius and no-nonsense approach, be it in practice or game time, Thibodeau’s presence may help the team’s budding superstars avoid going astray by imposing more discipline to their craft.

One of Minnesota’s main future pieces in Andrew Wiggins sat with Dime Magazine’s Martin Rickman, and talked about his expectations from the tough-minded coach.

He’s going to bring out the best in me. He’s a hard-nosed coach. He’s tough. And that’s what everybody on this team needs. We need our coach to take us out of our comfort zone.

Last season, Wiggins averaged 20.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and a steal per ballgame. His defensive ceiling is off the charts and it’s safe to say that Tom Thibodeau realizes what kind of a monster he can unleash out of the athletic Canadian.

Everyone became witnesses to how Thibodeau helped in the development of Jimmy Butler into becoming one of the best two-way players in the league today. The same trajectory can also be expected out of Wiggins, but the best part is that he already has a better foundation, and probably, a higher ceiling than Butler.

The future is definitely bright for the Timberwolves and Andrew Wiggins.
