While Andrew Wiggins remains one of the most attractive returns for a potential trade for Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving, talks of an extension are still ongoing, rendering “zero sense” in the rumors that he could be traded in exchange for the 25-year-old All-Star, according to Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500 Radio.

Wiggins was the original piece, a No. 1 overall pick by the Cavaliers in 2014 that facilitated the acquisition of Kevin Love from Minnesota and the formation of the current big three.

The 6-foot-8 Canadian forward had been rumored to make his way back to the franchise in a potential trade, given that the Wolves are one of the four teams in Irving's shortlist of potential destinations.

An extension could make trading him a much tougher task, given the salary disparity to make an equally-compensate trade and certainly a cost that the Cavs would be unwilling to pay.

Adding to the pressing difficulty is the fact that Cleveland will try to push some of the overblown salaries in the roster to clear cap space and get some luxury tax relief after three straight years of massive spending on their free agents.

Wiggins is in a great spot with the pieces put around him and Karl-Anthony Towns and while the team could surely get better with the addition of Irving, they would be just fine with a floor general like Jeff Teague running the offense.
