Optimism is abound in Minnesota. Under new head coach Tom Thibodeau, many NBA experts believe that the Timberwolves will become a contender in short order.

At the forefront of this movement are number one overall picks from 2014 and 2015: Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns.

After taking home the Rookie of the Year award, Towns warned the rest of the NBA to look out for the Timberwolves next season. He's also reportedly putting countless hours into his three-point shot. If he succeeds in shooting proficiently from outside, it would not be fair.

After going 29-53 last season, the Timberwolves are aiming to make a substantial jump in the standings, according to Wiggins.

From Omari Sankofa of Sports Illustrated:

I think we’re going to have a way better season than we had this year. We just had a lot going on. We’ve got some new pieces. I think last year we could’ve beat any team on any given day. This year we need to be more consistent with it. We can make the playoffs. Nothing is easy, we gotta work and our coach is going to make us work.

Even though they've only played together for a year, Wiggins believes he and Towns are a perfect match:

We fit perfectly together. We know each other’s games and every game last year the potential was building into the future.

In order to become the superstar that most scouts projected him to be coming out of Kansas, Wiggins has been working out all over the place to improve his game, with a focus on his handles and outside shooting:

I went to different places to work out. I was in Long Beach, I was in L.A. and I was in Las Vegas for Summer League. I was working out, and mainly this summer I’ve been working on my handles and my shot and just working on different things outside the three-point line.

Wiggins also expanded on how he can improve his camaraderie with KAT:

I’m working on a few things that’ll help with each other shooting from a double team, moves to get away from the next defender. Reading the defense and reading how we both play off of it.

The new era of Timberwolves basketball is only just beginning, but so far, it appears to be on the right track thanks to the tremendous work ethic and talent of their top two pillars.
