The Los Angeles Angels didn't have much patience for Brad Ausmus, firing him as manager after one season. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, Joe Maddon could be in line to take the vacant job.

Maddon and the Chicago Cubs just parted ways after five seasons, including a World Series championship in 2016.

However, since winning their first title in over a century, the Cubs have gone backward, falling in the NLCS in 2017 and losing the Wild Card Game last season.

This year, the Cubs won just 84 games and missed the playoffs entirely for the first time in Maddon's tenure with the club.

Should the Angels hire Maddon, it would actually represent his third stint as manager for the franchise, as he also had a couple of interim stints in 1996 and 1999 while serving as a coach, going 27-24.

Of course, Maddon's first big-time managerial job came in 2006, when he took over the Tampa Bay Rays. By his third year at the helm, the Rays had gone from league laughingstocks to American League champions. Tampa Bay won 97 games and made it to the World Series, ultimately falling to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Overall, Maddon spent nine years with the Rays, making four playoff appearances and going 754-705 overall. He then proceeded to go 471-339-1 with the Cubs, bringing his lifetime record as a major league skipper to 1,252-1,068-1.

The Angels won just 72 games this season, marking their worst finish in 20 years. They have missed the playoffs five years in a row and in nine of the last 10 seasons overall.
