The Los Angeles Angels optioned OF Joe Adell to Triple-A and recalled INF Jose Rojas on Tuesday. Adell was once considered a top prospect for the Angels but struggled in his initial debut in 2020. After minimal playing time in 2021, the Angels expected Adell to breakout this season. But the 23-year old has posted a very underwhelming .231/.242/.431 slash line with 3 home runs. The future is still bright for Jo Adell and odds are we will see him at the big league level once again at some point in 2022.

One of the main reasons Los Angeles likely felt comfortable optioning Adell to the minors was the production from outfielders Taylor Ward and Brandon Marsh. Marsh is slashing .267/.333/.417 with a .750 OPS and 3 stolen bases.

But the real surprise has been Ward. He is posting MVP-caliber numbers this season with his ridiculous league-leading .390/.493/.746 line and 1.239 OPS. Ward has also blasted 5 homers and stole a base for good measure. It would be extremely difficult for Angels manager Joe Maddon to justify keeping Jo Adell in a crowded outfield that features Brandon Marsh, Taylor Ward, and Mike Trout.

As for the Angels, they are playing well overall as a team. They currently lead the AL West and are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The baseball world is hoping to see Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani in the postseason for the first time together.

And maybe Jo Adell will return after some minor league tune-ups and contribute to the Angels playoff run.
