Noah Syndergaard—a member of the New York Mets since 2012—has signed a one-year $21 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, as reported by Jeff Passan:
BREAKING: Right-hander Noah Syndergaard and the Los Angeles Angels are in agreement on a one-year, $21 million deal, pending physical, sources tell ESPN.
The Angels bolster their staff with the highest-upside arm on the market — and pay a heavy price, plus a second-rounder.

This comes as bitter news for the Mets, who originally acquired Syndergaard from the Toronto Blue Jays, and has since become an All-Star in 2016, yet has suffered a variety of on and off injuries in succeeding years.
Syndergaard was originally offered a qualifying offer of $18.4 million by the Mets for one year more in New York. This pricey QO extended by the Mets was put in significant doubt given the recent reports on negotiations between Syndergaard and the Angels leading up to the November 17 deadline. As elaborated on by Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated:
While some see it as an overpay to give Syndergaard $18.4 million next season given his uncertainty health-wise, he could still wind up getting a multi-year deal from someone.
If Syndergaard were to reject the QO, the Mets could still re-sign him to a different type of deal, but they will likely have competition.
These rumors of advanced talks with the Angels play a starkly different tune to what Syndergaard was alluding to in September, wherein he stated that he was “fairly confident” of a return to the Mets.
