Shohei Ohtani is a one-of-a-kind baseball talent. In a sport that enforces rigid roles to maximize the talent of their players, Ohtani has done something completely insane. The Los Angeles Angels star is both a phenomenal pitcher… and a phenomenal hitter. That two-way excellence is something we haven't seen since Babe Ruth himself.

Many current MLB stars have recognized the talent that has blossomed in front of them. One of these guys was NL MVP Bryce Harper, who praised Shohei Ohtani while mic'd up during the Phillies' game against the Brewers. Listen to what Harper had to say about his fellow MVP. (via MLB)

Ohtani is the perfect mold of a two-way player in today's MLB. He could hit you with a 100 mph fastball at the top of the inning, and then take your batter deep once he gets into the batter's box. We've seen pitchers who can hit decently well, but no one has hit with more power and ran faster than the Angels star.

The Angels are hoping that this year is the season where they finally put together. The team has always had the star power: Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon are all stellar players in their own right. However, they haven't been able to fully utilize all their talent to make it to the playoffs.

Will this be the Angels' year? They currently sit at 9-7 in the AL West, but it's still a long season ahead of them. They'll need everyone running at full power to break their lengthy post-season drought.
