The Los Angeles Angels just continue to churn out wins at this early stage in the season.

Shohei Ohtani was among the heroes for the Angels in the dramatic 5-4 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday, which clinched Los Angeles the series victory.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ohtani delivered for the Angels with a game-tying double off of an 87 mph slider from reliever Tanner Rainey.

Moments later, Ohtani showed off his stout speed as he rounded the bases and scored the game-winning run of the game off of an RBI single by Anthony Rendon. He ended up beating the throw from Nationals outfielder Victor Robles by mere seconds.

Angels manager Joe Maddon came away from the thrilling win not only impressed with Ohtani’s heroics in the ninth inning but also pleased with players such as Rendon for also rising to the occasion.

“The boys came through,” Maddon said.

With the win, the Angels maintain their first place standing in the AL West with a 19-11 record. Even though they swept the Detroit Tigers in their four-game series, the Houston Astros currently sit at a half-game back of Ohtani and company.

For now, a three-game home series against the Tampa Bay Rays awaits the Angels. Maddon's squad will look to continue to build on momentum after back-to-back series triumphs over the Boston Red Sox and the Nationals.
