Bad news to Anthem fans, but good news to even more fans: Anthem will be abandoned for good.

EA ABANDONS ANTHEM FOR GOOD AFTER INTERNAL REVIEW

Anthem just celebrated its second anniversary a few days ago. However, this milestone is not a great one, as an internal review by Electronic Arts saw it fit not to continue the development of the game. In a blog post, Bioware executive producer Christian Dailey says,

“In the spirit of transparency and closure we wanted to share that we’ve made the difficult decision to stop our new development work on Anthem (aka Anthem NEXT),” says Dailey. “We will, however, continue to keep the Anthem live service running as it exists today.”

He says that while further development of Anthem will cease, the game's live service will continue running. This means Anthem fans may continue playing the game, but cannot expect any more big updates.

BIOWARE TO FOCUS RESOURCES MORE ON DRAGON AGE AND MASS EFFECT

In the same blog post, Dailey also talked about what benefit Bioware will have from this abandonment.

“Moving forward, we need to laser focus our efforts as a studio and strengthen the next Dragon Age, and Mass Effect titles while continuing to provide quality updates to Star Wars: The Old Republic.”

We can safely expect more Dragon Age and Mass Effect updates in the coming months. With this in mind, it makes one wonder if the decision to abandon Anthem could be because of the positive response people had to the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition reveal. Perhaps more details about the upcoming Dragon Age 4 game will also come soon.

Meanwhile, PC Gamer has just recently reported that EA recently filed a patent that could potentially eliminate download wait times. The technology will allow players to stream games as they download them.
