Anthony Carter may have played his last game in the league four years ago, but the 41-year-old is still getting paid up to this day.

Carter is infamously known for being the player who missed out on getting $4.1 million due to the failure of his agent, Bill Duffy, to complete the paperwork needed to secure him his payday.

This happened prior to the start of the 2003-2004 season when Carter was not able to pick up his player option, opening up unexpected cap space for the Miami Heat that year.

The 6-foot-1 guard went on to sign with the San Antonio Spurs and only appeared in five games due to multiple injuries suffered through the course of the season. Duffy, on the other hand, wanted to rectify the mishap by promising to pay off the lost amount to him. Carter spoke about the issue via Manny Navarro at the Miami Herald:

“In the end it was a blessing, I’m still getting paid from it. Everything happens for a reason and my agent was man enough to stand up and just pay me over a period of time. To this day, I’m still getting paid. I’m still getting paid until 2020.”

If the player agent paid it in equal portions from 2003 to 2020, the Milwaukee native would have received $241,176 per year, up until he's 45 years old.

It may be considered as one of the major quirks in NBA history but both men have moved on and are continuing their respective careers in the basketball world.

Duffy is among the premiere agents today, representing big-name clients such as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins, while Carter, who served as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings last season, has been recently named assistant coach of the Heat's D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
