Last summer, Anthony Davis was this year’s Russell Westbrook in terms of the expected monster numbers.
Davis was a lock for the top pick on almost all fantasy basketball drafts, which is very similar to Westbrook’s projection this year.
No thanks to a slow start, a stress reaction on his knee, and a torn labrum, Davis’ promising season ended up being a letdown. That’s right. 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.0 steal, and 2.0 blocks are disappointing numbers for the 23-year-old last year.
But the highly-athletic and skilled bigman is gearing up for a bounce back campaign this year, per John Reid of NOLA.com.
Anthony Davis is expected to be medically cleared to start the season with no restrictions, New Orleans Pelicans general manager Dell Demps said at a season-ticket event for fans at the team’s practice facility on Wednesday night.
A lot will be carried by Anthony Davis this season as the Pelicans are considerably undermanned now as compared to last year. Gone is Eric Gordon, while Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday are expected to miss the early part of the season.
We can all fantasize about Russell Westbrook’s potentially gaudy numbers, but let’s not sleep on a possible breakout year from Anthony Davis as well.
