The story of former NBA player Antoine Walker‘s financial problems are well-documented as he went broke after making around $108 million throughout his career.

According to AJ Neuharth-Keusch of USA TODAY Sports, Walker is hoping to use his personal story to help keep current and future NBA players from going down the same path.

As he travels across the country to share his cautionary tale, Walker says his goal is to “make a really negative story into a positive story.

“But also, (to use this) platform to one: share my story, and two: educate young student athletes on finances, so when they do make this money, that they don't make the same mistakes that I made and really work hard and try to really change this thought process of athletes going broke.”

It has too often become the case where professional athletes mismanage their money to the point when their playing days come to an end, they no longer possess the financial means they once had. This has happened for various reasons behind numerous poor decisions.

Walker's story is just one of the many examples of what professional athletes shouldn't do with their money. The fact that the former All-Star forward is willing to talk about his personal struggles could have a tremendous impact on helping others who could fall down a similar path.

If he's able to help guide any current or future NBA player better manage their financial situation, it will make his effort to inform others all the more worth it. Simply put, this is an honorable act by Walker with eyes set toward aiding others.
