The Houston Astros wrapped up a sweep of the New York Mets on Wednesday, but they didn't leave Queens without a significant injury scare. During the bottom of the eighth inning, Dominic Smith hit a pop fly into the outfield that was pursued by multiple Astros defenders. Both Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena could be seen calling for the ball before they collided on the outfield grass in a terrifying scene. The impact appeared to knock Alvarez out cold, who was seen laying in the grass motionless for a short while before the medical staff arrived.

While Pena managed to secure the catch and record the out, that was the least of Houston's worries. Both Pena and Alvarez were removed from the game. Alvarez was shaken up to the point that he had to be removed via a cart, whereas Pena was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Mauricio Dubon came on to replace Pena, while Alvarez was subbed out in favor of Chas McCormick. The Astros won the game 2-0 via a ninth-inning home run from Jason Castro, clinching their series sweep of the Mets.

The Astros have yet to provide an update on the severity of Alvarez's injury, but even if he does avoid a trip to the IL, it was certainly a scary sight for fans as he appeared to get knocked out by the collision with Pena.

Fans will have to wait until the Astros provide a more detailed update on the superstar slugger, but this is certainly worrisome for the club. Alvarez has been far and away the Astros' most prolific offensive player and is arguably the best hitter in Major League Baseball right now. He gave fans a huge scare on Wednesday, and hopefully, the next update on his injury will be an encouraging one.
