It was widely expected that Carlos Correa would leave the Houston Astros in free agency and sign a big deal with another ballclub in the big leagues. While the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs are still interested in the All-Star shortstop, the Astros have actually stepped up their pursuit to run it back with the former first overall pick.

As mentioned, owner Jim Crane has even got involved and the team could be ready to offer him a mega-deal in the range of five to ten years but also, a one-year extension could potentially be on the table. After all, it's not exactly a surprise the Astros would be keen on retaining Correa, who was such a crucial piece of their success over the last number of years.

The Puerto Rico native has spent his entire seven-year career with Houston, hitting .277 with 133 home runs and 489 RBIs. He came up to the Majors in 2015 and shined instantly, winning Rookie of the Year. Correa always steps up to the plate and delivers on the big stage in the playoffs as well, helping the franchise make three World Series in the last five years and winning it all in 2017.

The Astros will undoubtedly need to offer him a boatload of money, but given how important the 27-year-old has been in past years for them, it's would be a good move. This is interesting, to say the least though because Correa just sold his home in the city, which certainly pointed to him signing elsewhere. His mind could be set on a fresh start, but the Astros aren't giving up quite yet.
