The Oakland Athletics have agreed to acquire right-handed starting pitcher Tanner Roark in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The deal is pending a medical review.

The move comes one day after the Reds strangely swung a deal for Cleveland Indians righty Trevor Bauer.

Through 21 starts this season, Roark has gone 6-7 with a 4.24 ERA while allowing 119 hits and striking out 108 batters over 110.1 innings of work, and his 4.20 FIP lines right up with his ERA.

Roark was originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the 25th round of the 2008 MLB Draft but never actually played for the Rangers' major-league club before being dealt to the Washington Nationals in July 2010.

He went on to make his big-league debut in 2013, appearing in 14 games and making five starts and going 7-1 with a 1.51 ERA, surrendering 38 hits and fanning 40 hitters across 53.2 frames of action.

The 32-year-old then became a full-time starter for the Nationals the following year, going 15-10 with a 2.85 ERA while giving up 178 hits and registering 138 punchouts through 198.2 innings.

Roark would go on to spend the first six years of his career in Washington, posting mixed results. His best season came in 2016, when he went 16-10 with a 2.83 ERA and permitted just 173 hits while logging 172 strikeouts.

The Nationals then proceeded to trade Roark to the Reds back in December.

Over 203 career outings, Roark has gone 70-61 with a 3.66 ERA and 3.94 FIP, posting a 2.79 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The Athletics currently own a record of 61-47 and are in the thick of the American League Wild Card hunt.
