Major League Baseball hot stove season is quickly approaching and plenty of teams should be active at the trade deadline. The rumors have started, and this one will make Oakland Athletics fans happy as a huge name has been thrown around in a potential deal. According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the A's are expected to make a run at Colorado Rockies star shortstop Trevor Story.

That would be a huge acquisition. The Rockies are just a few months past from a massive blockbuster deal that sent All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals. Now it could be the A's turn to get in on the action, and the addition of Story would be rejuvenation for a franchise currently dealing with frustrating rumors of relocation.

The A's have the top mark in the American League West and very well make a run at an American League crown and a possible World Series trip, which would certainly put pressure on the city of Oakland to think twice about building a new stadium for the team.

Nonetheless, Story is extremely talented and a blockbuster for him would involve multiple players going to Colorado. The Rockies have been trying to shed salary at a record pace and are aiming for a youth rebuild, especially with teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres– not to mention the surprising San Francisco Giants– dominating the National League West for the next couple of years at least.

While Story is having a bit of a down year statically speaking with just five home runs and 23 RBIs, he is more than worth it and the Athletics would be thrilled to have him. His contract will end after the season and he will want to generate money along the lines of Francisco Lindor and Fernando Tatis Jr., both of whom received massive contracts this past offseason.

As the trade deadline approaches, the situation with Story will be one to monitor, and his days in Colorado are likely coming to a sad ending.
