Australia took it to Team USA in the second half of Monday's exhibition bout in Las Vegas, sending the Americans to another embarrassing loss after a shocking first defeat against Nigeria over the weekend. Patty Mills and Joe Ingles played starring roles in Australia's 91-83 triumph, with Mills going for 22 points and Ingles chipping in 17.

After the game, Ingles displayed some of his trademark confidence:

“We walked into this game expecting to win,” said Joe Ingles, via ESPN's Brian Windhorst. “No disrespect to them, they're a hell of a team, obviously the guys they've got on their roster and Pop standing up there is always nice to see, but we came in here expecting to win the game and that's what we did.”

Mills also addressed the victory over Team USA, via The Guardian:

“We’re not satisfied. We’ve got a long way to go,” Mills told ESPN afterward. “We can still get a lot better. But defense is where we’re going to hang our hat this whole campaign.”

“We believe in our entire team, and everyone being able to step on the floor and make an impact.”

Team USA led 46-37 at halftime before falling apart defensively in the second half. The Americans also stumbled offensively down the stretch, with Australia locking down against a team that's struggling to find a rhythm on either end.

Team USA has now lost four of its last five games dating back to the disastrous 2019 FIBA World Cup showing. It's only the third time the Americans have lost back-to-back games since NBA players joined the fray for the 1992 Olympics.

Australia has been a thorn in the side of Team USA of late, and Mills, Ingles and Co. are a threat to medal in Tokyo. Meanwhile, Team USA needs to regroup right away with another exhibition game on Tuesday against Argentina.
