Cale Makar made hockey Twitter lose its mind Tuesday night when the Colorado Avalanche defenseman pulled off what could be the strongest contender for goal-of-the-year honors in the NHL against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Makar ruined the night of Blackhawks fans at the United Center when he buried the game-winning goal in overtime, but even Chicago supporters can't honestly deny that what they witnessed Makar do on the ice was something they'd remember for a very, very, very long time.

The 23-year-old Makar collected the puck in the offensive zone and skated into the left side of the net then shook off Blackhawks forward Kirby Dach with a nasty fake before attacking the net and making a series of dekes to get past goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury for the score.

Again, Cale Makar is a defenseman, but he's showing the offensive abilities of an elite forward. On the season, Makar has 14 goals and 14 assists.

After the game, the Avalanche star spoke to the media and humbly said he was just “lucky” when he netted the said goal to give Colorado the 4-3 victory, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic.

Yeah, right.

With that goal, Makar now has a three-game point streak going on, and he will look to extend that run when the Avalanche take on the Winnipeg Jets at home on Thursday.
