MiHoYo just dropped Baal's trailer for Genshin Impact 2.1, and they really know how to pull on your heartstrings. The brand-new Raiden Shogun: Nightmare trailer shows how the powerful Baal has turned from a loving friend into the merciless goddess that she is now today. The trailer explored Baal's past, showing how she lost her friends one by one, eventually leading to her depressed state. No wonder the Raiden Shogun desires eternity – the death of her loved ones has pushed her towards this. But who are these characters we saw in the trailer? Here are Baal's trailer's characters explained.

Genshin Impact Baal Trailer characters explained: How the Raiden Shogun lost her old friends and descended to depression

The new trailer exploring the Raiden Shogun's past is not just heart-breaking. It sets up the next chapter in Genshin Impact‘s Archon Quest – and miHoYo is absolutely successful in hyping up the arrival of the Raiden Shogun. But a big question coming from fans right now is this: who are the three characters shown in the Baal trailer?

There are three characters shown in the Raiden Shogun: Nightmare trailer who we haven't seen before. They appear to be close friends to Baal, sharing an intimate moment with the Electro Archon. However, they disappeared one by one, explaining how Baal descended down the path of depression over the years.

Reddit user u/PM_ME_YOUR_ROBOTGIRL shared an explanation of who these characters are.

The first to disappear is Sasayori, a Tengu general who died during the Raiden Shogun's campaign on Watatsumi Island. Remember the island with the giant serpent's severed head? The battle that took place there hundreds of years ago cost Sasayuri his life, displaying his immense loyalty towards the shogun.

The second character, Chiyo, may have been the closest to the Shogun. She is seen laying her head on Baal's lap, implying that the two were very close. But during the Archon War, Chiyo lost her mind after being trapped in the stomach of a beast. She then betrayed Baal, losing an arm in the process, before disappearing in a foggy forest somewhere.

Finally, Kitsune Saiguu was revered as the Kitsune goddess. She was prominent among the locals and was a mentor to shrine maidens in Inazuma. However, during the Fall of Khaenri'ah five hundred years ago, Kitsune Saiguu perished. She was reincarnated as Kazari, and interacts with the Traveler during the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual questline in the game.

Her desire to return to the old times has turned her heart to stone in her pursuit for eternity. But the Traveler and his party might just successfully soften her heart and teach her how to love again.

The REAL identity of Baal, Ei, and the Raiden Shogun REVEALED

The latest Archon Quests revealed the real identity of Baal, Ei, and the Raiden Shogun. It also helps explain more the trailer, thanks to new information that surfaced. According to Yae Miko, Baal and Beelzebul were twin gods, with Baal being the original Archon. At Baal's death during the calamity of Khaen'ria five hundred years ago, Beelzebul took over the mantle as Raiden Ei. It appears that the person we initially thought was Raiden Ei in the trailer was in fact Raiden Makoto. Hence, the weight of the entire trailer got even heavier, as we learn that Raiden Ei, in fact, lost four loved ones in this trailer.
