As most people know by now, former United States President Barack Obama is pretty good at basketball and loves the game with a passion.

Obama has a great relationship with the NBA and its players, most notably Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James. The former POTUS got on a phone call with James, Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Chris Paul, Houston Rockets star point guard Russell Westbrook and Portland Trail Blazers veteran small forward Carmelo Anthony during the bubble games at Walt Disney World and helped guide the players during the Jacob Blake incident.

The Milwaukee Bucks decided not to play their scheduled playoff game against the Orlando Magic after Blake was shot in Wisconsin by police officers, and there were rumblings that players were thinking about leaving the bubble.

Obama talked to James, Paul, Westbrook and Anthony and told the NBA stars that they could make and instill more change in America by staying in the bubble and using their large platforms.

The former President also urged Paul and the NBPA to pressure NBA owners into putting their money to good use by donating millions to Black communities in need. James and Obama–along with Maverick Carter–recently talked about that phone call on UNINTERRUPTED:

Before Obama developed such a close relationship with James and became a celebrity after winning the 2008 election, his basketball roots started in Honolulu. From the fifth to 12th grade, Obama attended the Punahou School, a college preparatory school in Honolulu.

In 1977, Obama was on the JV basketball team.

Once his basketball dream ended and he got into politics, Obama still had a lot of love for the game. He would often play pick-up games at the White House and on campaign trails with reporters and fans.

Obama even got to practice and play with the North Carolina Tar Heels college basketball team. The team Obama played against wound up winning the NCAA title that year, so they may have Obama to thank for their success.

Upon video review, Obama is a pretty good jump shooter. However, as is the case with most lefties, Obama has trouble using his right hand.

All in all, though, Obama is hands down the best basketball player to ever sit in the Oval Office. He's also the most popular among the NBA community and its players.

After all, it's not every day a President can develop a relationship with the likes of James and Michael Jordan, two of the greatest basketball players in NBA history.

Teams who win the NBA championship miss going to the White House and meeting the President. Ever since Donald Trump got elected, no NBA squad has gone to the White House to celebrate their championship with the POTUS since Trump is very polarizing and often times shows off some racist tendencies.

After the Golden State Warriors won the 2017 championship over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dubs superstar point guard Stephen Curry said the team wasn't going to the White House. Trump then ripped Curry and the Warriors and took his invite away.

What happened next will live in sports history, as James bashed Trump on Twitter by calling him a “bum.”

This would have obviously never happened with Obama, who is beloved by NBA players. During his eight-year term, Obama went to a bunch of college and professional basketball games. His smooth looking jumper and respect for the game made him popular in the league, not to mention he's the only African American President in United States history.

Could Barack Obama possibly have made it to the NBA had he stuck with his basketball dream? Most likely not. However, there is no doubting his skills on the hardwood and he's probably giving the average hooper buckets in a pick-up game.

Look at that shooting form, folks. Philadelphia 76ers All-Star point-forward Ben Simmons wishes he could shoot like that. Maybe the Sixers should hire Obama to be their new shooting coach under head coach Doc Rivers and new president of basketball operations Daryl Morey.

Obama is greatly missed in the White House, but it appears his former Vice President is going to be the new Commander in Chief soon, as Joe Biden is projected to defeat Trump in the 2020 election. Obama and the NBA community have to be pleased since Biden, unlike Trump, supports the Black Lives Matter Movement.

We will likely never see another baller in the White House like Barack Obama. The former POTUS, though, will always be around the NBA and the game of basketball since it was his first love.
