Gerard Pique has dropped a major hint on his future with Barcelona. The 34-year-old centre-back, who has spent the majority of his senior career at Camp Nou, would like to retire as a Barca player but he doesn't exactly know how soon it could happen. Per Goal, via La Sotana:

“I will retire at Barca.

“This could be the last season, yes. I go year after year, so I cannot guarantee that I will be there next season. The day I feel that I can’t help Barca anymore, I will retire.”

Pique just took a massive pay cut to help Barcelona's financial situation after Lionel Messi left for PSG. Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets followed Pique's lead, also accepting reduced wages.

The Spain international has enjoyed an illustrious career with the La Liga giants, winning eight league titles and three Champions League trophies. With his country, Pique also captured the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

For Barcelona, the Spaniard has made over 500 appearances since 2008 and is considered one of the greatest defenders of this generation. It's completely unknown if he will hang them up after the 2021/22 campaign, but this will surely be a difficult season for Barca.

They've lost Messi and also loaned out Antoine Griezmann back to Atletico Madrid, leaving them with limited options in the final third. Pique is always an imposing figure at the back, but their attack is certainly facing some questions that will need to be answered very quickly. Summer signing Memphis Depay will be relied on heavily by Ronald Koeman after scoring twice in his first three appearances.

Nevertheless, Gerard Pique's heart is with Barcelona, regardless of his decision to retire or not.
