Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez sees that new signee Ferran Torres will be a pivotal addition to the club at this point in the season.

Even as Manchester City is in the driver’s seat for a second consecutive Premier League title and is among the serious contenders for this season’s UEFA Champions League, Torres opted to complete a move from the Premier League side to the Catalan powerhouse last week. This came as Xavi had inquired for club officials to sign Torres, while the versatile forward was very much intrigued with a move back to La Liga.

In speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of Barca’s upcoming La Liga matchup with Mallorca, Xavi opened up on just what Torres will bring to the club.

“Ferran Torres is a spectacular signing, as a player and a person,” Xavi said. “His greatest virtue is his professionalism. His mentality, his commitment, he adapts to three attack positions. He goes well upside down, wins duels.

“He will help us a lot.”

As it stands, Torres is not yet ready to feature for Barca. The new Barca talent has not been registered, and he is still dealing with a foot injury that he suffered while with the Spanish national team in October.

Barcelona will have to rely on several key depth talents to step up for its upcoming bout with Mallorca, especially as multiple players are currently sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Catalan side heads into the second half of the season in seventh place in the La Liga standings.
