FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta's latest press conference will have fans delighted, though it wasn't without some mystery. On Monday, Laporta revealed that Barcelona had completed the signings of two star players on free transfers. The catch, however, was that he wasn't allowed to reveal who those players were. Of course, it's widely known that those players are AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, and Chelsea center-back Andreas Christensen.

ā€œWe have finalized two signings for next season. A midfielder and a central defender.ā€ Laporta said. ā€œBut I can't say their names.ā€

Barca have long been linked to the Chelsea defender, who was said to have the Catalan side as his preferred destination for quite some time. With his contract expiring at Chelsea, and the Premier League side currently under a transfer embargo amid the Roman Abramovich saga, Christensen was free to negotiate with Barca. Based on Laporta's report, it seems they've successfully signed the Danish star.

Kessie will also be joining the club from AC Milan. The midfielder had been linked to a slew of top clubs this summer after contract talks with the Rossoneri broke down. Barcelona, who are keen to take advantage of the free-agent market, swooped in to get a deal done with the Ivorian international.

Both players will be huge additions to a Barcelona side that struggled throughout the 2021-22 season, and considering they'll be joining the squad without a transfer fee going the other way, it's a huge coup for the Catalans. There's plenty more to come from Barcelona this summer, but they're getting busy early in the free-agent market.
