Despite the current financial crisis surrounding F.C. Barcelona, the team has made some bold claims regarding its plans for the summer transfer window. According to MARCA, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made a very bold claim regarding a marquee deal over the summer. MARCA reports that Laporta is claiming he will sign Norwegian starlet and the highly-coveted Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland, over the summer.

Well, based on everything that has been made publicly available regarding Barcelona's current financial standing, there seems no possible way the Catalan giants would be able to afford Haaland. The 21-year-old wunderkind is anticipated to become one of the world's highest-paid players when he pens a new deal this summer, with the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, and PSG all vying for his signature.

A marquee difference between Barcelona and the aforementioned top-tier clubs is that none of the others are drowning in a financial catastrophe. Despite being in absurd amounts of debt, Barcelona surprisingly signed Manchester City winger Ferran Torres for a fee of around $62,000,000. However, reports then surfaced that the club wouldn't be able to field Torres without offloading some players in order to balance the books.

If a player of Torres' caliber is causing Barca to offload players just to register him for La Liga, one can only imagine the type of club overhaul that would need to take place for Laporta to successfully bring Haaland to the team. Barcelona surely has a lot to figure out before they can even enter the Haaland conversation with a straight face, but Laporta seems to be operating under the impression that debt is just a concept, and that Barca can carry on buying star talent as usual.
