Even as the winter transfer window is nearing a close, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez could possibly soon see some new additions to the team.

Barca has been quite active over the ongoing winter transfer window, especially as it completed the permanent signing of now-former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres and registered longtime fullback Dani Alves as a free transfer.

The club has also finalized several departures, including sending both Philippe Coutinho (Aston Villa) and Alex Collado (Granada) off on loan moves.

Still, as Xavi touched on during his pre-match press conference ahead of Barca’s La Liga fixture against Deportivo Alaves, club officials are aiming to once again bolster the squad.

“We are working on getting some signings,” Xavi said. “I've been very clear with [ Mateu] Alemany and with the club president [Joan Laporta] as to what areas we need to reinforce. But from what we want to what we can get, there's a stretch.

“We will see what can be done considering the wage bill. There are still days left.”

Barca has been linked with a multitude of players over the past few weeks for a possible transfer move, including Juventus forward Alvaro Morata. A recent report from the Spanish-based outlet Sport noted that not only does Xavi view Morata as a “priority,” but he would also like the club to haul in a fullback who could play on either side of the flanks. But as Xavi noted, Barca's salary cap complications may force the club to offload players in order to complete any new signings.

For now, Barcelona will look to get back on track in the upcoming away fixture against Deportivo Alaves, especially after being eliminated from two competitions this month.
