A week removed from the closing of the winter transfer window, Barcelona club officials are already looking ahead to the summer window and the possibility of parting ways with one veteran forward.

As noted by the Spanish-based outlet Sport, Barca will be open to offers for Dutch forward Memphis Depay in the summer transfer window later this year.

The recent arrivals of both Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added to Barca’s roster pool upfront and, as a result, the club will look to offload Depay in order to free up space within its attacking depth chart.

Sport adds that as Depay has a mere one more season remaining on his contract deal, Barca will look to find a suitor for him in the summer. If the club is unable to finalize a departure for Depay or opt to not come to terms with him on a contract extension agreement, it could risk losing him as a free agent in next year’s summer transfer window.

More so, the report notes that Depay has found “problems” fitting into Barca manager Xavi Hernandez’s tactical setups.

In the big picture, the Dutch international’s hamstring and muscle injuries that sidelined him from seven of Barca’s last eight La Liga fixtures have hindered his ability to possibly be a regular under Xavi.

Depay has not had a shortage of interested suitors in him as of late. For one, Juventus has been linked with a transfer move for him, although it is not known whether the Serie A side plans to make a grand push to sign him later this year.

Depay has scored eight goals over 23 appearances in all competitions with Barcelona so far this season.
