After a roller-coaster start to the season, Barcelona club officials are now eyeing the upcoming winter transfer window as one route to improve the team.

Barca club officials and manager Ronald Koeman view the midfield as one position that is in dire need of reinforcements, especially as they were not able to haul in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer move over the summer window.

As noted by the Spanish-based outlet Sport, club officials have already shortlisted four such players as possible signings. Among them is Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, as noted by the report.

A possible permanent transfer deal between Tottenham and Barca for the versatile French midfielder would not be in the cards. Instead, a loan deal is being viewed as the more optimal route for Barca to add Ndombele to its midfield depth.

Overall, Barca is also being linked with the likes of Marcelo Brozovic and Donny van de Beek for possible moves in January. It is currently not known as to the extent of the club's interest in either of these two midfielders.

In Ndombele's case, he was previously linked with Barca as recently as the summer transfer window. The former Olympique Lyonnais star was in the rumor mill with a possible move to the Catalan powerhouse, but there were no reported serious talks between Tottenham and Barca for such a deal.

Ndombele has had rough patches over his run with Spurs ever since joining the side from Lyon on a €62 million deal. However, he is now becoming more of a regular in Tottenham's starting lineups this season, which include starts in its last three Premier League matches.

At the moment, Barca is not in urgent need of another midfielder considering the recent emergence of prospect Gavi.

Nonetheless, Barcelona will have plenty of midfield options over the winter window. Whether it will be Ndombele or another veteran talent, there are expected to be multiple middle-of-the-park talents who will be available in January.
