Bayern Munich legend Arjen Robben has called it quits for the second time. He came out of retirement to re-join his boyhood club FC Groningen, but an injury kept him sidelined, and he only managed to feature seven times last term.

The Dutchman first retired from professional football in 2019 after leaving Bayern Munich. Now, the former Groningen, PSV, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Bayern man is hanging up his boots for good. Here's the 37-year-old's full, heartfelt statement.

ā€œI have decided to stop my active football career. A year ago I announced my comeback as a FC Groningen player. I embarked on this adventure with great energy and enthusiasm. I only had to deal with physical setbacks quite quickly, which prevented me from playing matches for a very long time. After a long road of trial and error I finally managed to play the last games of the season. Looking back on the past season, I have to come to the honest conclusion that the number of match minutes was disappointing. I knew in advance that this could happen, but I took up the challenge and gave everything to make it work. And not only me, everyone within the club and in my immediate environment has helped and supported me at all times. I am also not unaffected by the warm reactions and support from all football fans.ā€

Throughout his 22 years long career, he's accumulated an impressive number of trophies. Arjen Robben retires as one of the greatest right-wingers with a deadly left foot. He's a 1x Champions League winner, 8x German champion, 5x German Cup winner, 4x German Super-cup winner with Bayern, 2x English Champion, 1x English FA cup winner, 2x English Super Cup Winner with Chelsea, 1x Spanish champion, and 1x Spanish cup winner with Real Madrid. He was also a 2010 World Cup runner-up with the Netherlands.
