The Chicago Bears are looking to get back into the win column coming out of their off week. They next face the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, it appears they will have to find a way to do it without defensive tackle Akiem Hicks for the next eight weeks of the 2019 NFL season.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Bears have placed Hicks on injured reserve with an elbow injury:

Bears’ DT Akiem Hicks, placed on IR today, is expected back in 8 weeks, per source. He doesn't need surgery on his elbow.

Chicago was dealt with some significant blows on both sides of their line coming out of the bye week. They had just announced their decision to place guard Kyle Long on IR as well with a hip injury. Hicks will now join him and neither player will be eligible to return until Week 15.

It is safe to say that the Bears' recent misfortune with injuries deals a devastating blow to their chance to get back on track this week. The NFL is as unforgiving as a league there is and their matchup with a 5-1 New Orleans Saints team is proof of that.

Hicks' absence will leave a notable void in Chicago's formidable front on defense. This group is coming off an uncharacteristic performance against the Oakland Raiders in which they allowed rookie running back Josh Jacobs to gash them for 123 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

The Bears are hoping that defensive tackle Bilal Nichols can fill in as a replacement in time for their matchup with the Saints after being sidelined since Week 2 with a broken hand.
